Craft Center: Focus on Fine Craft for High Schools

Welcome to the Craft Center's on-line store for the Focus on Fine Craft Workshops for High School Students Program.  If you have any questions along the way, please contact Gail Gentry at ggentry@tntech.edu or 931-372-6883. All workshops take place on the campus of the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tennessee. Please click on the icon below to begin.
  • When you select a workshop for your students, please fill it before selecting another workshop. A minimum of 4 students are required for each workshop. This keeps materials and instruction costs (and registration fees) lower.
  • The fee per student is $20. Please make check payable to TTU - Craft Center. Fees are due upon arrival at the Craft Center on the day of your scheduled field trip or when you are reimbursed by the Tennessee Arts Commissions' Student Tickete Subsidy Program.
  • Please, if at all possible, check with your administration about the date(s) that you select to avoid last minute cancellations.
  • Please ensure that reservation numbers will match the number of students that you will bring. This helps us keep our artists informed about dates that they are required to teach and be present on campus.
  • Your students will participate in hands-on craft projects. All of the materials, tools and equipment required for the day are provided by the Craft Center.
  • Students will take home all completed projects with the exception of clay projects. The Craft Center will fire these projects in our kilns. Teachers must return to pick up fired clay projects. Typical turn-around time is 2-4 weeks. We will notify teachers when projects are complete.
  • PLEASE ask your students to wear clothes that can get dirty. If they participate in a class with a flame (blacksmithing or glass bead making) they MUST wear cotton clothes (synthetics melt). ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES - no sandals are allowed. Leather or cotton shoes are recommended.
